Clinic Moves To Telemedicine To Prevent COVID-19 Spread

Para español, ver abajo.

Due to the spreading COVID-19 pandemic, the Center for Healing & Hope is implementing limited weekend telemedicine visits for those needing urgent evaluation and advice.

Between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. every day of the week, people without a primary care provider who are sick and need urgent advice can call 574-216-1723 to arrange a telemedicine visit with a provider.

This service is ONLY for people sick with COVID-19 symptoms. No other urgent care needs will be addressed during these times.

Telemedicine visits cost $30 (credit or debit card required). A provider will assess your symptoms and determine if a COVID-19 test is appropriate (specific criteria need to be met due to an ongoing shortage of test kits). We will provide education and advice on managing symptoms, including advice about when care in an Emergency Department is warranted.

Change to telemedicine

As the virus that causes COVID-19 spreads, the Center for Healing & Hope is transitioning to a telemedicine model for most of our visits. We are doing this for several reasons:

  • To protect our patients, many of whom are at high risk for serious complications from the virus due to age, diabetes or other chronic health conditions.
  • To protect our volunteers, many of whom are retired and in a higher risk age group.
  • To allow us to continue to provide accurate information to those we serve. We will be able to triage patients that have Covid 19 symptoms, and order testing for appropriate patients.

For Our Patients:

We want you to understand that Telemedicine visits do not replace optimal in-person visits with a health care professional, and are only being used temporarily because of the current COVID-19 epidemic. The provider will do his/her best to evaluate your health care needs and will use their professional judgment to offer you medical advice based on the information you provide. You should seek an in-person evaluation at an urgent care or emergency department if your symptoms persist or worsen, or if you or the provider feel you couldn’t be fully evaluated over the phone.

If you think you have COVID-19 symptoms, OR if you have any other medical issue that you would like to have one of our medical providers help you with, please call us at 574-216-1723 during our regular office hours to schedule a telemedicine visit.

For Our Donors & Supporters:

This shift to telemedicine comes with significant increased expenses for us. It has and will continue to take many extra staff hours to deal effectively and compassionately to this epidemic. We will also be consuming a lot of (now) expensive supplies (masks and gloves) to protect ourselves and our patients. For many of those we serve, we are the most reliable source of accurate information, and the only source for being triaged and tested if they develop COVID-19 symptoms.

We will also experience a significant drop in revenue from patient fees.

In order to stay solvent and continue to work on the frontlines of responding to this pandemic, we will need our donors to help provide the finances to stay “open”.

For Our Volunteers:

We are sending each of our current volunteers an email about what this transition means for you, and how we still very much need your help.

For new volunteers, we are especially in need of nurses that can draw blood and interpreters.  You can sign up to volunteer by going to chhclinics.org/volunteer.

Please fill out a new volunteer application and you will receive an email from Bella for instructions and to coordinate a schedule.

10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
